Mark de Groh
Mark has spent nearly 25 years as a leader in the climate impact community. While cutting his teeth as an economic policy wonk at the Federal Reserve Bank in Washington, D.C., he happened upon an orphaned copy of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring (1962) in the lunchroom. By the end of the day, he had become a staunch acolyte of science-based environmentalism. By the end of the year, he had begun a lifelong career in the climate action vanguard.
His path since then has been rich in depth and diversity, including:
Senior roles in climate research and innovation for the U.S. Green Building Council, American Architectural Foundation, and University of California System.
Sustainable finance intrapreneurship and impact investment within Morgan Stanley’s Global Investment Office.
Climate program leadership for many complex public-private partnerships at the federal, state, and local levels.
Technical advisory mandates for corporations working to comply with an evolving regulatory landscape.
General advisory services for corporations, government entities, and NGOs ranging from Google X to the U.S. Department of Energy to Chatham House.
Support roles for forward-leaning philanthropic efforts such as the MacArthur Foundation’s 100&Change Program and MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Challenge.
At Uplift, Mark focuses on where sustainability is today, where it’s going, and how our clients can benefit from leveling up in both regards.
Mark holds advanced degrees in systems analysis from both Princeton and Ohio State. He also brings extensive experience in design thinking to the table, a skill refined through his leadership of dozens of community design charettes across the country.
He currently resides with his family in New York’s Hudson Valley, where they feel blessed to have the Appalachian Trail run through their backyard.
