Leave Policies
Time Away From Work
Pregnancy
Uplift is firmly committed to protecting the rights of expectant mothers and complying with the Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act as amended by the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978. Uplift’s policy is to treat pregnant women, childbirth or related medical conditions in the same manner as other employees unable to work because of their physical condition in all employment aspects, including recruitment, hiring, training, promotion and benefits.
Pregnant employees may continue to work until they are certified as unable to work by their physician.
When the employee returns to work, the employee is entitled to return to the same or equivalent job with no loss of service or other rights or privileges. Should the employee not return to work when released by her physician, she will be considered to have voluntarily terminated her employment with Uplift.
Maternity Leave
After giving birth, new mothers will be eligible for 8 weeks off to recover physically and to bond with the new baby. The employee will continue to be paid their full salary for this time. At the end of the 8 week maternity leave, new mothers would then be eligible to take parental leave as well.
Before commencing Maternity Leave, new mothers are required to notify HR to initiate the leave process at least thirty (30) days in advance.
Parental Leave
An eligible employee may take up to 4 weeks Parental Leave as a new parent. The employee will receive 70% of their salary while out on parental leave. This leave must be taken within the first 6 months of the child being born or placed with the employee.
Parental Leave applies to all employees who are new parents. The term “parent” means any of the following: (1) the biological parent of a child; (2) a person who has adopted a child; (3) a person who has newly been appointed as Guardian of a child; or (4) the spouse of any of the foregoing persons.
An employee wishing to take parental time off must notify Human Resources at least thirty (30) calendar days in advance.
Medical Leave
An eligible employee may be granted up to 12 paid weeks of Medical Leave with appropriate medical documentation. Please contact Human Resources to discuss eligibility.
Military Leave
Uplift supports the military obligations of all employees and grants leaves for uniformed service in accordance with applicable federal and state laws. Any employee who needs time off for uniformed service should immediately notify their manager, who will provide details regarding the leave. If an employee is unable to provide notice before leaving for uniformed service, a family member should notify the manager as soon as possible.
Employees granted a military leave of absence are reinstated and paid in accordance with the laws governing veteran's reemployment rights. Failure to report for work within the prescribed time after completion of military service will be considered a voluntary termination.
Bereavement Leave
Regular exempt and nonexempt employees are allowed up to 3 consecutive days of paid leave for the death of an immediate family member (parents, siblings, grandparents, spouse, domestic partner, children, and all such relationships that exist through marriage or domestic partnership).
