Measuring a Manufacturer's Carbon Footprint
Client:
Large manufacturer with dozens of owned facilities and managed assets.
Opportunity:
After advising the client on establishing environmental impact priorities, the company identified Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions as a critical gap area in its sustainability program. The company did not yet have internal capacity, data systems, or the tools needed to measure its operational emissions.
Solution:
Uplift partnered with the client to map its emissions sources, define its GHG inventory boundaries, develop customized technical guidance and tools for carbon measurement, and conduct a quality review of the final results. Uplift also developed a customized internal reporting structure based on relevant reporting frameworks and best data communications practices defined by the GHG Protocol.
Outcomes:
The client was able to significantly accelerate the development of their process and increase their internal awareness and buy-in for data collection.
The client was confident that the calculations and quantified inputs to the system were accurate and relevant to their company, industry, and locations.
The client was able to communicate the benefits of having clear visibility into this risk area (GHG emissions), understand emissions hotspots, and begin planning for enterprise decarbonization efforts.
